Thames Valley Ski Club was formed back in 1971 by a small group of local ski enthusiasts with the objective of promoting, encouraging and facilitating the sport of skiing around the Thames Valley area. And for the best part of 35 years, we've all played a part in maintaining those aims. TVSC has served the local skiing community well by bringing fellow skiers together in a friendly club environment and facilitating value-for-money opportunities to learn and practice.

And we've had fun along the way! Many of you will remember the heady days of the 80's and early 90's : waiting-lists for clubnight ski courses, the madness of Les Arcs ski weekends, Mike Roshier's holiday groups, committee meetings until gone midnight, Christmas Fun'n'Games, sold-out social events, racing at Gloucester …..

Over the last few years our membership has remained steady at just under 200 due in the main to our Standing Order renewal process. However, for a variety of reasons not exclusive to our club, active participation in all club activities has significantly dwindled and we've been obliged to reduce our financial commitments and on-slope activities as a result.

At the 2006 AGM, the committee and membership agreed to continue the social aspect of the club for one more year and review it again in 2007. The lack of significant support for any of activities during 2006-2007 means the committee proposed to close the club with effect on 31 August 2007 and donate the club funds to Disability Snowsports. This proposal was adopted at the AGM although the closing date was extended to 31 December 2007 in order to allow time for a few final events.

The club for formally closed at a committee meeting 13 February 2008. The final accounts are posted here. The balance was donated to Disability Snowsports UK, Aldershot branch.

A champagne and strawberries evening was arranged in August and a very successful final dinner in October.

An `Friends of TVSC` email distribution exists and is maintained by the former committee for as long as required and some informal social gatherings may be arranged.
